The world is burning itself to a crisp -- with our help
Our "leaders" (in the USA, at least) all seem to speak gobbltygook -- to themselves
Nearly EVERY leader in the Middle East seems to be insane
The obscenely rich only get obscenelier -- while the poor can't get much poorlier

And what does the news media in the USA obsess about?

How much air was in a %$#$%^ FOOTBALL.

I QUIT!

amen brother...

while in ft myers florida last week, i stumbled upon a "packer bar" (the parrot key bar & grill) to catch the end of the game and i could not believe the reaction of some folks to the admittedly upsetting loss... one could have thought that they were reacting to a major terrorist attack or other such life changing event... Well, this is a heavy topic, and yet one near and dear to my heart. So, with no intent to ruffle any feathers, here goes:

"This is the Day in which God’s most excellent favors have been poured out upon men, the Day in which His most mighty grace hath been infused into all created things. It is incumbent upon all the peoples of the world to reconcile their differences, and, with perfect unity and peace, abide beneath the shadow of the Tree of His care and loving-kindness. It behoveth them to cleave to whatsoever will, in this Day, be conducive to the exaltation of their stations, and to the promotion of their best interests. Happy are those whom the all-glorious Pen was moved to remember, and blessed are those men whose names, by virtue of Our inscrutable decree, We have preferred to conceal.
Beseech ye the one true God to grant that all men may be graciously assisted to fulfil that which is acceptable in Our sight. Soon will the present-day order be rolled up, and a new one spread out in its stead. Verily, thy Lord speaketh the truth, and is the Knower of things unseen." -Baha-u-llah

Baha-u-llah described Himself as the Pen of God, revealing a new Message from our Lord, the Unknowable. This was in the latter part of the 19th century. He warned of convulsions, upheavals and disintegration, and followed this with God's promise of renewal in an 'ever unfolding civilization'.

It is easy to see what's falling apart and not working, it's in the news every moment of the day! But if we look, we can see what is building as well. While we have seen the world wars, the intractable gathering of wealth, the incessant preoccupation with trivial pursuits, there has also been women's suffrage and civil rights, governments increasingly allowing for the free expression of people, and in general a huge leap in an awareness of the world being a community of nations, a much different place from what we could see in the world even just a century ago.

It is not my intent to burden any soul, but I invite you to study Baha-u-llah's claims for yourself, and see if you find hope there. He was willing to accept 40 years of imprisonment and exile for those claims, and spent His final days on earth writing from the prison city of Akka about this vital Message.

Indeed. I would even say, The love of Money and Religion are the roots of Evil. These two topics are the main cause of almost every single war being played out, and certainly the cause of many a small-scale violent conflict. Somehow people cannot keep to themselves when it is about money of fundamental believe frameworks. Lets get rid of money and religion. affraid

Oh . . . my . . .  goodness.

EVERYBODY but Kevin missed my "point" (such as it is) entirely.  It is NOT religious.  It is NOT about money being the root of all . . . whatever.

This is NOT a heavy topic.  It is as lightweight as those effing footballs and the folks who obsess over such silliness.  It's a rant about the epidemic of stupidity that seems to be washing over the planet.

Ferget it.   I still quit.

OK Jim calm down, remember your blood pressure. AH -- I can't think of an intelligent reply just now, so I'll have to have a cup of coffee and ponder this for awhile. In the mean time stay warm Jim.

You are right, of course, but I don't get around too well any more and you can only read so much -- and sleeping is such a damnedable waste of time.

Well, repartee has never been my strong point. Now, if you want outright sarcasm, and a LOT of skepticism (and a very low tolerance for people who don't bother to Capitalize, punctuate correctly, or edit their messages, or spell check -- or post their pictures right side up, or don't read before they ask, or -- the list is almost endless), I'm you guy. Or I'm de man.

HEY !!!
WAITAMINIT !!!
i resemble that remark !!! Razz
(in my defense, at least i use complete words rather than tweeter-talk)

and reaching for that shift button is like sleep: "a damnedable (sic*) waste of time"
and periods are too definitive for my liking...

see ?
i believe language rules are like bonsai rules...
once you know what they are, you can break them...

as long as it is intentional and not done out of ignorance.

JimLewis wrote:...and a very low tolerance for people who don't bother to Capitalize, punctuate correctly, or edit their messages, or spell check

as an aside - the word capitalize is ironically not capitalized Wink
* and spell check would have caught "damnedable" for you there jim - s/b damnable Laughing Laughing Laughing

It is when I want it to be . . . for emphasis. (With a nod to Lewis Carrol and the Caterpillar.)

It did/does; I chose to ignore it.  While we're on the topic, a person's name -- e.g. "jim" above -- also is normally capitalized.  Which, I suppose is too danged much trouble for people who "keyboard" on their phones/I-podpads. Another peeve.  Among many.

in staying on topic (sort of) i do know better and can type correctly when i need to, but on a daily basis it is not a priority
(and i am just a lazy typist...)

On the down side of that attitude, you can run across obnoxious barsteds like me who might have the exact answer you need for a question, but who won't answer 'just because.'

On another site, I will NOT answer questions from stupids who refuse to take the time to post upright pictures of trees. I seldom have that problem here, thank goodness.

sheeee-it jim, if i worried about every obnoxious bastard out there, i wouldnt have time to worry about much else...
only because theres so damn many of you... er... i mean "them" out there...

and an answer i dont get is the answer i won't know i didnt get which is just as good as not getting an answer which is exactly what i got...
or didnt get... ? scratch

Those said, it is clear the reason why every kind of propaganda is so easily "bought" by the vast majority. We do not spend a minute to think what we hear or what we see or whatever....
