I was more interested in deciduous trees at the time, bud that changed and now i am more interested in pine and conifers
i looked a lot on the web bud i am not sure what specie it is.
it has 2 leafs in a bundle i first thought it was a pinus sylvestris later i bought a pinus sylvestris bud the bark didn't match.
If anybody knows what species it is, please let me know.
Thanks

It's best to make sure they are the correct way up in your picture storage before uploading them to there.

I think it is a white pine of some sort the way you tell is if it has 2 nedles in one if it has 3 or more it is a red pine.

All "white pines" have 5 needles per fascicle.

Japanese red, Scots, Mugho and Austrian pines have 2 needles per fascicle.

Pitch pines have 3 needles per fascicle.

There is also a pine with one needle per fascicle.

Sometimes some species mutate and have more than normal, but this is not generally true.

It does look like mugo pine to me. Treat it like one & you won't be far off.
Some of you are confused. WHITE pines have FIVE needles. BLACK type pines, including red, etc., have TWO, sometimes three needles.

Reminds me of Pinus edulus (Pinon pine) which has 2 needles per bundle. There is also a Single needle form called Pinus monophylla. Just a guess though. Don't know if they have Pinon pine in European nursery's.

Don't be too "sure." In the USA, which is a very large area so not much help in your profile, white pines have FIVE needles per bundle -- always.

Hi,

Here is the progression of the tree so far.
I did not put it back in the ground, but cut the branches in two phases and styled it like this .I did not like the result at all.

After a few of month i did a make-over and made the backside the the new front, and i'm pleased with the result, for now.
If i'm going to repot the tree i have to tilt the tree a bit so that the lowest branch comes more to the front.

Nice work! Did you ever get a definitive identification? The needles look too soft to be mugho, but maybe that an effect of the styling. I hope you give this plenty of time to get healthy after your styling. What type of soil?

O, Pinus sylvestris, Scots Pine, has a very wide range. The artic circle to the Iberian peninsula is a "wide" range and can expect "some" variation. This is Scots pine and should be treated as such. Prune like any single flush pine. If in your climate you get double flush consistently then prune like double flush. Observation of growth characteristics is the critical part so stay attuned.

Thanks,

I will take it slow with the tree.i'm still not 100% sure if it's a Mugo or a sylvestris due to the mix replies.I dug up a mugo from a garden 3 months ago and it do's not look the same.I'm planning to join a bonsai club and maybe they can give me the exact species.but i would not be suprised if Gary is right.
I will post the result of that.

The soil is 50/50 akadama/kiryu

Cheers,
