Classical Bonsai Art. A half century of Bonsai study. You can order from his website, International Bonsai. A good book.

However, that's about more than maples; it is a review of bill's overall body of work, and is well worth having. I don't know of any book by Bill that is just on maples. You may be thinking of Peter Adams' Bonsai With Japanese Maples?????????

Get Bill's book through WWW.internationalBonsai.com Get Peter's book at Amazon.

i cant speak for jim, but i'm pretty sure he didnt mean anything by it...

because one thing about jim that i have learned, is that when jim wants to make point,
he dont beat around the bush with a plethora of punctuation points, for petes sake...

he comes right out and "calls 'em like he sees 'em".
