Hello Andre, I sure looks like Sinningia leucotricha to me. Its a Gesneriad from Brazil. Sometimes called Brazilian Edelweiss. In Portuguese it is called Rainha do Abismo (Queen of the Abyss). Thank you for posting. It is beautiful.

Andre's Kusamono Empty Dendrobium 'Guttons Sunray'

Post  Andre Beaurain Wed Jan 09, 2013 8:55 am

Spectacular Dendrobium...one of the oldest Crosses in the Dendrobium family, from the 1800. It lasts fro 3 weeks indoors!!!

Andre's Kusamono Orchid10

This is a Promenaea, planted in a broken Fairy Castle that I made 100 years ago.... Razz This plant flowers on and off during the year, at no consequence of the weather. I use this as an Accent and as Kusamono. It stands 17cm high.

Anybody who can guess the species, is a genius

Is it a Rock, a Fish, a lizard , a Seed or an Insect?

Sorry, I'm not familiar with many tropical trees. I would put it in the Fabaceae, Papilionanthe department, but that's as close as I can get.

Very close stoner, you must know alot about plants! .....but no, caffra is only red or scarlet (well you do get pink and white, but only one colour.)

Iris is also on the right track...ofcourse!

Hello Andre - another beautiful plant! This sure looks like Erythrina acanthocarpa to me. The flower color and spiny pods (which is what acanthocarpa means) give it away. Thanks for posting it and thanks for the fun!

Post  Andre Beaurain Fri Feb 01, 2013 10:26 am

cheers DAVID wins

Isnt it an amazing species. Its endemic to the South Eastern Cape. Its a dwarf variety of the Coral Trees.
Earlier Famers reported the Veld ablaze with fire, as it flowers. Of course today its almost extinct in its natural habitat.

This particular plant I'm training for a bonsai, they have very large tubers underground. Its been in the ground for 7 years now. Can you imagine this flower in a pot, as Bonsai. They only flower when they have no leaves on. It hardly grows taller than 2 m. Which makes it perfect for Bonsai. Me thinks.

The seedpod, has only ONE seed in it.
No wonder its almost extinct. Stupid plant.

Post  Andre Beaurain Sat Feb 09, 2013 9:52 am

Looking great. This kusamono has been in the same pot for 4 years, and can stay in it till it climbs out.

I brought it into the house yesterday for the weekend not only because of it obvious beauty, but you guys must smell this..... ooooo Wow tantelizing, very unique sent!

Last year it only had 4 flowers, in spring this year there are going to be at least 15... me thinks. Can you imagine.

Love and light

Hey Dre!
your pod would give only one seed also,
if you were starving! give it a little poop!
and you'll have more pods... flower

Hello again Andre, another lovely plant! It sure looks like Dendrochilum cobbianum to me, but there are several species of Dendrochilum in cultivation and many look quite similar, so without a close-up photo of the flowers I cannot be certain of the species. Congratulations on keeping it so happy, healthy and showy indeed!
