did someone say bonsai road trip ???

Post  kevin stoeveken on Fri Oct 24, 2014 8:04 pm

matter of fact, yes... i did.
got my tool roll, my paddle-board (SUP), my bicycle and a skateboard or 2...

off to north carolina and this is how i roll...
the modern version of the VW bus. flower

and yes, those are lime green cougars perched in gnarley old pines
and so i call it the cougar den...

after all, like everyone else, i got into bonsai for the groupies. Razz

Have a good trip. Just wondering.. If you add all that equipment to the current setup.. Where will you put your trees? How many do you take on the trip?

Coming home Kevin will be sleeping in the driver's seat, because that truck will be full of trees, he won't be able to help himself. Have a good trip. Learn a lot and take pictures.

finally have a minute to post some of the road trip photos...
mainly from on the road as my arboretum pics were posted on the "bonsai at the north carolina arboretum thread"
(under top threads)

weird kentucky campground... but had some fun photo time later at night

the view at 80 mph

a very interesting tree at lake julian park in asheville where i went swimming and paddleboarding

a gloomy morning on the blue ridge parkway
(which i found preferable to the typical sunny nice day and the subsequent photos that type of day yields)

and finally the best for last...
"scroungers paradise" in beautiful asheville NC

no false advertising here as they had everything from this:

to this:

and even a whole bunch of this:
boxes upon boxes of wigs in stained rotting boxes  affraid

oh yeah, and i scored a box of 19 cheap mame/shohin size bonsai pots for $25 !!!

th-th-thats all folks ! pig

Looks like you caught that tree bending over for a drink. How cool! Always moved by the misty distance-view of the hills. I think one of the by-laws of the AAC...leeet's seeee...yeah here it is... is that deals on old bonsai pots need to be evenly distributed between AAC members.

Thanks for sharing!

Kevin,

thanks I enjoyed that immensely. Wish I could have gone to Scrounger's. I need some wigs for my model work, on this side it is mostly black hair, curly or other. Oh, for a blonde wig for my models Laughing

Great photos, sounds like a great trip. Nothing like a visit to a great artist to fire up the imagination. I've driven the Virginia stretch of the Blue Ridge Parkway recently and the scenery is awesome.
