Ficus 5 trunks

Before when still matterial, trunk of this Ficus look is not nice, so I decided to shaved trunk to creat scars for more impressive. After 7 years and arange root this tree as shown:

Interesting thought. However, aren't the scars eventually going to heal and to completely close? Then you will
end up with 10 trunks. Nice roots.

i agree with dorothy774, she made a good question..here i've tryed it before, but the scar heal completaly..ficus are not good to made jin and sharis.. this is my experience here in brazil.. let's just wait...

For Ficus scars use drugs applied waterproofing regularly. Few more year the scars will be closed.

scars could be reopened regulary if you yant them to stay open ..there is no problem
the effects by repetition are very nice...i saw nice things on a friend experiments on junipers and ulmus

Even after the bark rolls over and heals, the trunks will display a new 'butt cheek' crease character not seen before. What root technique did you use Invinh? Cut back...grow pot so on... What are you sealing (drug waterproofing) the exposed wood with? Thanks from the East.

Well, I think nearly identical scars on each trunk is a bit much anyway. Maybe scars in two trunks. Regular recarving will keep them going.

Before this tree only some place have root. At position want to root grow, I use knife cut with a litle on trunk and use soil covered. in short time later the root will grow. And drug for waterproofing I use ond kind of Vietnam when sealing on scar look like use film plastic covered.

Outstanding composition! In spite of the large scars, which in the future will be grow out,the composition will become very original, in contrast to many other ficus creations. It would be interesting to look at earlier photographs regarding the development of these trees.

While this is true, it would have been aesthetically much better not to scar the trees so regularly straight up the trunks. I can see it looking better if the scars appeared in different orientations (side, front, side, and so on) and in different lengths. You would still end up with " butt cheeks" (chuckle....), but with some more interesting ones.

and that's multiple sets of interesting butt cheeks.

As for the Ficus... I likes it!

I agree with your feelings on scarring. It needs to tell a story and the only one this conveys to me is physical damage by something like a truck or derailed train! I prefer my stories told by nature.

I don't know, Kev. I think if it got hit by a truck or a train... NATURE-LY ... it would be damaged!

I do agree the scarring should make sense, in a tree sort of way. I'm more fascinated by the number of trunks, the nebari and the potential to direct the canopy into what appears could be spectacular.

Time will tell.

After another review I still prefer the congruent 'butt cheek' creased look. It is very sinuous but not distracting from the over-all group movement. I am just not seeing train wreck here. Just don't see it. I am seeing a display of cheeks in harmony giving me a feeling of movement.

Please excuse my ignorance, but do fig wounds need to be sealed or treated to protect the health of the tree??

I like this bonsai, but I do find a couple of elements troublesome.

The exact same scar on every trunk makes me think of a tree, or group of trees, that was hit by a car. Since this is a ficus, I think the butt cheek element will go away with time. To me the scars emphasize the sameness of the trees.

I wish there were a small tree on the right side for balance, and some front to back movement on the left side. I see a stair step row of trees descending in heigth from the center to the left that's a little monotonous. Some variation in heigth and girth would be nice.

But what a beautiful piece of material!

Already treatment and now need more time to scar lose, I thing need few year.

About adding trees to the right for balance in my very unreasonable, because with bonsai, especially as multi trunk- Follow me - make a difference on is mean tilt on one side left or right the look better , avoid boredom.

Very original, but I like to see the picture of the whole tree and and another one showing the side of the tree too.

Ivan, when I look more closely I see what you mean about the photogarph and the trees on the left.

But I still think there is too much empty space on the right, if not another tree at least some branches to fill the large void. That's just my opinion and the way I see it. You have a wonderful tree and every right to be very proud of it!

Russel, I have to disagree. I think by adding another thee to the right the group will become too symetrical. too fan shaped. What appeals to me is its asymetry, countered by the similarity of movement in the trunks.
