Street Juniper First Styling

Hello everyone , it's my no.6 post ,once again with this juniper ,since I have done the same this juniper last month ,after that ,I came back to pick up this new one again.



this juniper has trained to be a bubble shape to decorative for the public landscape as always see on the street in Hong Kong.

the main single trunk is very short and the rest of tree is full of long branches without bud.
so those will become jin.

but I finally cut the lower branch off, because it's too long ,thin and weak ,and also not match with the trunk.

I like your styling ideas for the most part but I am a bit concerned that the amount of active growth you removed from this tree may be too much and the tree may take years to recover if at all.  Just my concern.  Doing bonsai is like engineering;  If I can design the most beautiful and innovative bridge in the world but it falls down then I clearly have made a mistake? But; if I continue to do the same and hope the result will be different then Einstein would call me insane.

totally agree,that was a mistake because, I didn't make enough time to planing and the design was not too clear enough before I start first cut become too much cut like that ,anyway thank you for your comment.

this is update the tree after repotted and touch up overall

Again, I like the tree, but think there is too much and too long and skinny deadwood. Dead branches like these in nature would break short at the first ice storm -- and the tree obviously had suffered through a lot of inclement weather.

I like what you have done, the jins are too long, but as they age, and after you get more settled on your design, you can always shorten them. You can not easily make them longer again if you shorten them right away, so I would start out with them a bit too long, and as your vision for the tree evolves shorten them to "just the right length".

for horticultural reasons, I would let the tree grow now for at least 12 to 24 months without any further trimming, pruning or pinching. No new wire, no repotting. Just let the tree recover. Good after care for the next year or two is critical for survival. Once it is bushy again, you can return to developing the foliage pads and detail shaping. You did a lot of drastic work this year, it needs time to grow a bit before working it again. But it will be quite nice after the next round of styling.
