Chinese Juniper - Small white mushrooms! Should I be worried?

Post  Keri-WMS on Tue Jul 22, 2014 1:57 pm

These appeared in the last day or two, it's been hot and raining a lot - they are about 8mm diameter caps.

The tree isn't 100%, but it's pushing new growth - the odd bit of (old?) growth is slightly mottled and the odd new shoot isn't perfect. It's in 100% cat litter, other than the dollop of original soil around the trunk where it was collected.

So what do we think? They are not the brown topped classic root rot shrooms, and there are dead bits or root and bark to eat near the surface?

On the other hand they really like the trunk!!!  Neutral

I'm tending towards just making a note to get rid of more of the original soil/clay next time I repot as at the end of th day it WILL be wetter than the rest of the pot....

Three links suggest not to worry:

Yup. You're OK. Maybe cut back on watering, because they DO indicate soil is too damp for juniper. With rain, though, wet soil is understandable.

While the plan is to bare root the middle to clear the clay next time I repot (I won't root prune at all I expect), I've just read that in the UK Junipers are actually pretty good if repotted in August!

Anyone think this is a bad idea? The tree's been in this pot (bucket) for several years now, and leaving it over winter won't exactly let it dry out a bit!!!!!
