Satsuki Azalea Tsuki no Shimo, One for Russell

I was greeted upon my return from a not so great Monday at work to this sight.  This is the first year that it has really bloomed like this.  I was told that the name translates to " frost of the moon" and I think that this accurately and poetically captures the essence of the flower.  It has a delicate shimmer that is hard to capture with the camera.  I really like the buds too, they remind me of the good old fashioned Christmas lights, before they were ruined by government regulation and LEDs.  Thanks, Russell, for all the knowledge and advice that you have given me on azaleas.

Wow, Jim, it is amazing how big a difference a little lattitude makes. All of mine are done, except for this one and the autumn moon. I don't know it the autumn moon is gonna make it, I think it has some root issues.

This little Waka Ebisu is the farthest along of any of my Satsuki. It is always the first to bloom. Buds are small and tight on all the others.

What lovely pictures. They portray what I always HOPE my azalea's will look like and very rarely do!

My Koromo Shibiku

I hope that my Wakaebisu will look as good as yours, Jim. Hopefully it will get there one day.

I always wondered if the Shibiku would make a good bonsai. I think that I will give it a shot, I have many growing as landscape plants.

Thanks for all of the comments. I still have a ways to go on this one, it used to cascade further down but a squirrel gave it and impromptu pruning, I hate those little _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _!!!!! So, now I will have to work to rebuild this.

Sorry about the lost cascading branch John, I hate those little creatures too, they often disturb the soil and sometime exposed the roots
