Buxus work in progress

Your buxus has a nice size to the base! Is your plan to increase the amount of foliage or leave it sparse? Currently, I think there is a disconnect between the power of the trunk and the sparseness of the top.

surely the leaf mass must 'increase, this could be a project[img][/img]

I am a considered a maniac when it comes to chopping BUT I was not expecting how far you brought this down! I was not expecting it.

Any update on this tree?

I can see sparseness as a sign of great age. Also the result of harsh environment. A disconnect for me is a trunk that shows a long life being ravaged by the elements, all twisted, gnarled, shari and jin abounding, and on top of it sits a luxurious canopy that appears to have been developed in a protected garden. (Oops, did I say that out loud? Many masters have produced just that, and while I admire the great skill and patient work, I don't enjoy a viewing a tree that seems to have that conflict. It's like a green satin collar on a beat up, old leather bomber jacket.)

Don't forget that trees bounce back and a damaged tree now...can be lush after several years...and still carry the scars it endured prior.

Stories they tell silently can all be valid...we just have to listen.

Dario we can forgive, for Texas were a country of its own,  and maybe he didnt get the memo.    

It also, must be a very Precarious country in which  you only get Scientists and Salesmen....  but it must be in Africa surely. But I can find Nebraksa in Africa...very bizarre   ....

for now the plan is not 'changed, the vegetazine and' remained the same, also in our country there 'was a massive attack of borer that has literally destroyed many boxwoods. Luckily my parents were well-controlled and managed to save them. I predict a repotting for next spring. Thanks for your comments, or look again.

Ahh, that explains it.  Here in TX (and US in general) boxwood seem to be styled more like an Oak...yours seem to be like an old Olive tree and I now see why.  

BTW, my comment was not meant to say I did not like the way you styled it (because I do)...just saying that it was too drastic even for me.  Please keep posting and if you have other trees, we would love to see them.

Jamb, I really admire the trunk and I think the deadwood is a fitting addition. Will watch for more posts.

I did not see that radical chop coming.

I was expecting the almost elegant lines of the long trunks, which had nice movement, to result in time in a single dense canopy that unified all the trunks. So when the chop was made and I saw it in the photo stream I had to do a double take.

I think it is too early to tell - let's see what a season or two does. It has the potential to make a decent sumo style tree, but I wonder if you did not lose some of the best elements?

Did you air-layer the long trunks and get a few extra trees out of them at least?

Based on the pics, he did not.

Just want to share that I learned that boxwood veneer graft easily.  Just an option for later, the info may come handy.  I too chopped many boxwood because they don't backbud for me...w/ grafting, I have much more options now.

If I may add, they airlayer easily and even big branch cuttings sometimes take.

but i liked it better as an upright.

I like the fact that there are other people that will give something a good hard chopping.
