nice, but as the auction progresses likely to get too steep for my wallet, and annoying because I'm only down the road from the seller.

Thankfully, you didn't include a link, but please let's not start talking about E-bay stuff here. That can too easily get out of hand -- especially by people with axes to grind (or sell, as the case may be).

I did include a link. where it says 'acer'. What's wrong with ebay?

What's wrong with ebay?

Nothing, I suppose, aside from a growing reputation of shady dealing on the part of some vendors.

But from OUR standpoint as an on-line discussion group, it is too easy to begin to clutter up (read overwhelm) the site with either:

1. Newbies wanting our expert opinion on some stick in a pot (or even a fairly decent tree) that they may bid on,

or,

2. Sellers -- dubious or otherwise -- peddling their wares (and continuously reminding us that there are only a few days, hours, minutes, or seconds left until their priceless item is gone forever.

or,

3. Folks complaining here (complete with pictures) that the tree they got did not resemble the tree that was pictured, or that the vendor did (or didn't) do this or that as promised,

or,

4. Any combination of the above.

It has been a long-standing policy of the IBC -- not iterated here yet until now -- that we have better things to do with our time than discuss offerings on e-bay. I know we have a few arrivals from the apparently defunct BonsaiTalk where I understand e-bay discussions went on forever, but please -- not here.

Perhaps it could have been made clear somewhere that this was verboten. A policy is fine, as long as those affected by it are aware of it. Otherwise we're getting in Kafka land.

Nice tree though, for £52 Very Happy

Hi Bobby, one of the reasons that this Forum is popular is because the site follows guidelines and is actively moderated. Can you imagine the scenario, " I am thinking of bidding on this tree... what do you think? you have just opened the door to dozens of fellow bidders.

I am an active Ebayer but would never:
A) let anyone know I was interested in any material as this would bump the price,
B) let anyone know of good material.. Coz I will bid on it only at the very last minute to get the lowest price.
C) Buy from China as they post a photo of a quality item (ie Table) and send you a pale imitation (yes this has happened to me)

I actively shop on ebay as well and what Tony says makes sense. But there is actually some good material there and some reputable sellers as well as the shady ones and I have been burned a time or two. But I don't think overall it is becoming "increasingly" shady. I don't know where a lot of you get your trees but my local sources are fairly limited and ebay opens up a few more opportunities for me and if you are careful you can score good deals. Nonetheless there is still something about it that would keep me from ever mentioning here that I had purchased a particular tree there!

I'm sorry, Bobby. It was just something we overlooked in the rather hurried transition from the old site to this. We tried to think of everything, but this one got left out -- probably because it had been a policy for so long that no one ever thought of it any more.
