Cutting Ponderosa Needles
Hello IBC,
I have a mature established Ponderosa pine that I intend to show next year. Since I have focused on strengthening this tree all this time, I need to know when is normally a good time to trim (slightly, not too much... I don't want to set-back the health) the needles to make the tree somewhat in proportion by next year's fall.
Thanks,
Aman

A photo of the tree might stimulate some cogent replies from people that traditionally grow the tree for as a bonsai. I do not and don't imagine to tell you how to grow it. But_____Photos will help you get a reply.

Re: Cutting Ponderosa Needles
Without knowing anything else about the tree, I would wait to cut the needles short. One or two days before exhibiting the tree would be the right time to prune the needles to a uniform length. The needles are the energy source for your tree, cutting them short will lower production of sugars, so avoid doing this until the "last minute" before the show.
