Pine Fertilizing Suggestions
I recently acquired two pinyon pines. I was wondering if anyone had any fertilizer suggestions for this species or pines in general. They are currently potted in 50/50 pumice/granite mixture. I started feeding them on a dilute Miracle Gro for now, 1 teaspoon per gallon. I'm eager to hear some suggestions since these are my first pines.

I'd use Miracle Gro at label strength (which I believe is a tablespoon per gallon). You might check with NMSU or your extension office about their pH preference since soils tend to be a bit alkaline in the drylands.

I use homemade organic fertilizer
Organic Fertilizer Recipe Mix uniformly, in parts by volume:
4 parts seed meal
1/3 part ordinary agricultural lime, best finely ground
1/3 part gypsum (or double the agricultural lime)
1/3 part dolomitic lime Plus, for best results:
1 part bone meal, rock phosphate or high-phosphate guano
1/2 to 1 part kelp meal (or 1 part basalt dust)
1/2 level kitchen measuring teaspoonful (carefully measured) of ordinary
washing borax per each four quarts of seedmeal.**

I follow Walter Pall's advice. If you have modern substrate, which you do, then fertilize heavily and water heavily everyday with any kind of fertilizer. Buy the cheapest stuff you can find and use it. The tree knows what it needs and will take it in exactly as it needs. I think his advice is good as I have been doing it the past two years and with great results.
I think soils and such things are always up for debate and I think that if something works for you then just use it.
