Juniper Procumbens first styling

hello .. this is my No.3 post here.

last post I bought a big juniper from the gardening shop , and this smaller tree ,the gardening shop gave me this for free like get 1 free 1 promotion.

 

so this tree is just like my side project from last post.

cleaning , checking , and thinking .



should be very simple look and more relaxing , this work for chill out



finally it's just a bunjin.



and now just wait the time to make it look old later.

yes, this is my impression too, this is not a procumbens.

Oh, don't be so sure -- it well may be. MOST procumbens may grow "procumbently" but not all. Here is one that is in the NC Arboretum collection.

Jim, surely that one was staked and grown out like that. The original posters tree has scale foliage and and upright growth habit without (seemingly) being staked or wired up.

The original poster lives in Hong Kong.  I don't see it as beyond possibility that it too was staked (if that is how the arboretum plant got its shape).  I also see the possibility that either (or both) consist of a cutting of one of the prostrate arms of a typical J. procumbens.  Or . . .

It looks to me like the OP's plant has both kinds of foliage -- a very common trait in J. procumbens if it hasn't had thorough bonsai treatment.

if i'm not mistaken, according to arthur joura, the original owner of that tree actually hung it from the apex and didnt let the pot touch the ground/table/whatever in order to make it grow as such...

kinda like the medieval rack

sorry it's my mistake of this juniper title, and thank you everyone for those concern.

I was confusing that my tree has 2 foliage in 1 tree, the needle at below part look really the same procumbens but the top it's full of scale foliage.
and now I learn that it's not procumbens from you guys notice above ,so today I did a little research of this matter, then from that the most possible
of my tree should be with that 2 kinds of foliage and grown up vertical direction that matching with ..juniperus chinensis Blue Point or Blue Point juniper,and Juniperus Chinensis Pyramidalis

and the other matching is Juniperus Chinensis Pyramidalis , this one have many shot name title show out .( I am still confuse about that too)

for me NO 3 it's the most look the same my tree . but I can't find any better information more than just the word Dew Drop juniper
however , the only point i know for sure is, my tree is not procumbens. but still confuse what actually it is.

I used to work in a nursery. That looks like skyrocket juniper to me.
I really hate to disagree Jim but the name procumbens says it all. It means to lay flat. I also think the picture you posted the tree was staked upright. Sorry.

Or, hung by the top until upright.  <g>

But many juniper often show both mature and juvenile foliage on the tree at the same time, so that is not diagnostic. It probably is safest to call this tree J. chinensis with no cultivar name.

Hung from the top sounds crazy to me also Jim. I do know the tree in the original post can get quite tall. There is 4 near me that are around 8 feet tall with 6" to 8" trunks. Hoping to score all of them next year. They are in front of a business sign and are starting to block it. Getting with the owner to see if he would rather have something a little more shorter. I believe these could be some decent material for formal uprights.
