Hi IBC.

Summer is here and it's phempis time once again.

Phempis acidula 19601110

Have to deal with some woods...

Phempis acidula 18981910

Phempis acidula 16222410

Done major works for the day... detailing next.
Phempis acidula 19796110

Phempis acidula 14494_10

Phempis acidula 19395510

Phempis acidula 19269410

The tree is sitting naturally in a white rock, and I wanted to highlight the clasping and twisting of the shari onto the rock. this means more exposure of the rock base and wood carving at the base.

Thanks Sam and Efi.

here is more detailing works...

Phempis acidula 16561810

Juniper style deadwood seems not appropriate for tropical trees so I am trying to give more rotten looks to the wood, as what a troical deadwood should look like IMHO.

Phempis acidula 10001310

and give more shari to the tree trunk and the left side area

L.L.B,

I look at your effort and the size of that monster, and then I laugh, when I remember you teasing me about my pemphist twiglet [ which is due to be shipped to the sea side to grow ] after I take about 10 cuttings.

I find your concept of - rotted wood - an excellent idea, and a good move away from the juniper envy one often sees on tropical trees.

You will see my effort in 10 years or so, but I doubt if it will have rotted wood.
Much thanks for the inspiration.
Stay Well.

Wow, I never knew about this species.  It should grow perfectly in my climate.  Great tree and thanks for sharing!

edit: after some research, I've read that this species needs to be sprayed/watered with saltwater from time to time. Can you confirm this Jun?
Thanks

Yes.

I am have to say that this is a very difficult species even for most of us in the tropics, even the most seasoned bonsai practitioner lost branches and sometimes trees, and sometimes even the whole Pemphis garden ,,,matured and expensive ones.

Like this garden, which used to have thousand world class Pemphis acidula tree...mostly dead now.  Crying or Very sad  We managed to rescue several dozens.

i know you can lose a pemphis acidula branch from getting overwhelmed by mites that can stay undetected from unwary owner while sucking the tree branch dry. what is stopping others if one can grow p. acidula and not err?

thousands of p. acidula poached... greedy, greedy... i would take half a dozen if i have the buying power of this man. Evil or Very Mad

It is not the mites. It is more on the wrong techniques. We are doing it the wrong way. The tree is nice for several years but slowly it is dying after 6 years.

The person who owned this garden, I believe is not greedy. He is in fact one of the nicest and the most honest man doing bonsai in the Philippines, He is one of the pioneer of Pemphis bonsai in the country. that is why he has that much collection, most of the trees that were lost in our remote islands went to foreign countries during the 80's and the early 90's.

this is probably what you're implying.

fact is that removing thousands of well-established trees from the wild brews destruction. it's also greed that plied and prompted this man to his position.
greed seems doable-edged.

You said the same to Jong in his Murraya thread. even though it is just couple of old murraya materials? but I don't see you doing the same comment to Japanese, Taiwanese, European materials which were gathered the same way.
BTW in that thread, murraya is just garden trees and not forest trees or critically endangered species...are you sure you are in the right forum?

I'll be happy to see you discussing or showing some trees.

Keylyn,

I saw some pictures that you contributed to Walter Palls thread... they seems to be very old too? were they all yamadori? I am sure they all are.

Double standard on your part?

our people seem very explicit in their blunders.

i have a few small-mini yamadori poached you could count on two hands (mostly weedy coppices that can become invasive as alien plants and very few p. acidula). i never said i'm not a part of these blunders. if i rate myself from 1-10 as a good person with 10 being the highest, i'd give myself 2-3.

Your judgement on yourself on how bad you are is base on your own perception.
if one thief stole a chicken and another thief stole the whole chicken farm..both of them are still considered thieves. and not anyone of them is in the position to lecture other thieves about immorality of stealing.

Just enjoy bonsai and stop judging other people that you do not know of.
