Although to present arbórea morphology, ombu is a herbaceous plant of great dimensions, not having wood in its caule, weighs its size even so. Hi luciano,

I love the fact that you are styling your bonsai as the trees appear in nature, NOT styles that we would see in the UK... a problem we have in the UK is that some folk have one 'style' and they apply that to all their trees... so Cratageus look like Juniperous that look like Pine... I hope you understand my meaning.

Your trees look fantastic bounce

Ombú-Pitholaica Dioica... Empty Confusion...

Post  luciano benyakob Fri Feb 27, 2009 1:21 pm

Tony, in Brazil has an immense confusion of styles Here!
I am defender of the works of Min Hsuan Lo and Walter Pall, that work in more adequate way our nature.
Making trees, to put we have very fundamentalist people, who defend styles based on Conifers.
How nothing it has to see with our plants!
Thanks Luciano.

Ombú-Pitholaica Dioica... Empty Re: Ombú-Pitholaica Dioica...

Hello Luciano,

How nice to see Ombu again - especially as bonsai. I lived and worked in Paraguay for several years and the Ombu were always among my favorite trees. There are a few grown here in San Francisco, and now seeing that substantial leaf size reduction is possible I may consider giving one a try here. Thank you for showing us these. Muito Obrigado Luciano!

Other readers may be interested to know that the Ombu (Phytolacca dioica) is a close relative of our American Pokeweed (Phytolacca americana) and is often referred to as the world's largest herbaceous plant since it produces no true wood. This one begs the question: is a tree still a tree without wood?

Hi David, When I age Marine, very travelled in the area of the Triplice Border.
And this is one of the trees had fascinated that me, in its natural habitat is a work of art of the Gigantic and beautiful nature!
Unhappyly it can die without the wood, to put sprouts again with some branches that turn some trees.
Thanks Luciano.
