Thymus Yamadori Empty Thymus Yamadori

Here's a Thymus (thyme) yamadori that I collected when I was living in France a year or so ago.

I am just about to remove all the flowers and work on cutting back to shoots closer to the trunk to try and make it a bit more compact. It has a great natural twist with deadwood etc etc. Other than removing dead parts that were of no use to me this is pretty much as it was when dug... Not a standard bonsai and a tricky one to work but different and the cutting are useful in the kitchen  Laughing

Comments/opinions are always welcomed

Very nice. I like the second shot as the front. And, you might remove some visual weight from the lowr branch. Looks like lots of fun.

Thanks for the comments Jim.

Visual weight will be removed later when I remove the flowers and cut back to buds/branches closer to the trunk. Due to the nature of thymus (like pines), no foliage means no growth and cutting back too hard is terminal to the plant. This is quite an old plant so work on getting it to back bud, if at all, is going to be a slow process. I like it though and its nice to have something different to the norm on the bench. And, as the old cliché goes, this one definitely looks better in the flesh than in 2 pics.
