imaginary display Empty imaginary display

recently I ran across a person that shared a new purchase of shikishi board with me. I was so enthralled with the thought of creating a display around it that I thought I might share what I'm thinking and get some thoughts from others.....

The board shows a priest that had been drinking wobbling around with a pot over his head to the amazement of two other priests...

I could see a sake pitcher and cup as a tenpai to accompany the scroll and could only imagine using a literati or bungin type tree.

Since the owner shared the board with me I can't get it out of my mind. What hurts is they paid $5.00 for it.....you can see it has age with it as well.

what are your thoughts, around building a display with this scene......

I must admit I had to look up shikishi board and that was after I bought several blanks ones, calligraphy brushes and inks in Tokyo, just didn't know the Japanese word for one. One day, when I have more time, I intend to start doing some scrolls, myself.

I was an art major in school. Taking sumi-e classes was humbling. It's all about learning to load the brush.l.m getting wiser on what goes best with what. lots of sunsets, sun rises, moons with different atmospheric conditions. simplicity is the key. If you attempt some be sure and share Smile

For me, it's not if, it's when. Still working and now got three grandkids. Perhaps when I retire!

I met a young guy called James at Harry Tomlinson's summer camp a few years ago and he was becoming an accomplished calligrapher. Very humbling watching that sort of skill.
