lovely trees this time of year - and the leaves stay on really well too so the autumn image extends quite a while.

i planted one in the garden yesterday to enjoy the golden leaves on a larger scale every year - and i'll be airlayering a few branches too Smile

Thanks everyone for the replies.

Marcus: I find the leaves stay on late, but once they reach a peak as this tree has, they fall off very quickly. Up until yesterday the colour was not nearly this nice.

Fiona: Without going out to check, I think the tree is about 30cm from the lip of the pot.

That's a beautiful little ginkgo, and it deserves a MUCH FINER pot.

I have one about 3 feet high in a pot which I am growing for air layers. The butter colour of the leaves has been spectacular but the trunk is no where near as nice as yours. What a super example of A Ginkgo. Well done

If the Pine is King of bonsai, the Ginkgo may well be the Queen of bonsai!

Thank you Smile The pot does bother me sometimes. The pot is fairly decent, it is high fired and has nice detail in the glaze, which cannot be appreciated from the pics. Sure, its not a yamaaki pot. I do think a light blue more shallow pot would be ideal for the future of this tree, although marco invernizzi described the current pot as "perfect" for the tree. Not sure I agree. It is nice for the summer image, but I think a blue glaze would really complement the fall colour and winter image.

Don't get me wrong, "fine" doesn't have to mean expensive (it usually does, but it doesn't have to). I like the shape, the upward sweep is nice with a ginkgo. For me almost any color is good, glazed or not - except cream. When you have autumn color that beautiful, I'd go with blue or green. I don't think you have enough contrast, and that's what this tree needs.

Not sure how old it is. I would guess it was field grown somewhere on the west coast of the US or maybe in Korea, and is probably around 30 years old. I got it from a nursery in the US in fall 2008. I can't take too much credit for it, but I have been paying careful attention to the branch development. Building ramification is hard with ginkgo.

Here is an older pic

Hi Rui,

Here is the most recent image (November 2013). Currently it is still under about two feet of melting snow. Toronto has had the coldest and snowiest winter in 20 years! Fortunately this tree has been covered in snow through the worst of it, and they are very tough trees.

Looks great in that new pot. Did you catch a shot of it with the fall color and that pot?

This is 2013 fall colour, although it wasn't the best year. Still tinges of green but the leaves pretty much fell off the next day.

I love your tree, and the pot is nice too. I prefer the winter image better. I was never fond of Gingkos, but last year I saw some really nice examples and now this. Gingkos have been promoted to my new list of favorites.
