juniper repotting

Here's the latest result of blaauw's juniper foliage grafted to san jose root stock. I've shown the tree before on another thread. Recently, I've repotted into its first display container made by John Pitt.

Here's the juniper in filtered, natural light. I think it's my best in my collection!

Hello Peter..Outstanding juniper! I have been looking for prematerial similar to this that does not cost the price of a car..lol.. Material that has had no work done to it so I can create exactly what I want.

an awesome juniper.

What I like to remark is the shape of the hole tree. The tree nearly builds a quadrate and looks a bit overpowered to me.
Is it possible to make a cascade out of the semicaskade in the future.

Andre. I built the whole tree from this, starting in 2007 with grafting blaauw's foliage to this san jose root stock. I got it from my teacher, Colin Lewis in 2006. I let it rest for a year before beginning the work.

That is a great transformation in a reasonably short amount of time. Really good work!

I haven't done much with it since repotting last spring.  I've brushed the bark mildly.  this year, I'll just clean up the foliage tufts while maintaining its strength.  I'll  rewire, too.  I prefer this task for junipers to be done during the growing season.  Thanks for all the comments

I feel it looses something without the jin's. Just filling in the foliage a bit more could make the jin's feel less present if that was desired.

Yes!  It's about balance between the live and dead parts, and with foliage mass and negative space.  If a pot doesn't work, you can change it.  But, once you remove deadwood, you can't put it back.

It doesn't lose something without the jins it loses everything.  This is a spectacular tree it just needs some balance.  I feel that anyone who can do the grafting and do the art on the dead wood can figure out how to balance this tree out.   You just need to stand back, maybe for a season, and wait till you get a flash of inspiration.   There is one thing I know for sure; if you start eliminating dead wood you will eventually wish you had not.

Sometimes, when you are faced with a tree where you are stuck, it pays off to consider something totally different. Just think about it and realize I cannot see the tree or examine the options I am going to throw out as to whether they are possible or not. What if you wired, pulled or trained the growing sections of your tree over onto the right side of the tree? Just think about it. You would no longer have the cascade but you could wind up with a pretty good Kimuraish juniper. Just look at the options---- I know this is extreme and you would be justified in calling me an idiot.
