chinses elm funny leafs.
Hi I have a question about my chinese elm. Some of the leaves are turning colors. My wife said maybe I'm over watering, but boy water it when the soil is dry. I test the soil with a chopstick. I do sprits the leaves with some water 2 times a day, once in the morning before work and once in the evening when I get home. I also keep it in a humidity tray.
Here are some pictures.
Do you see the discolored leaves? Sorry the pictures are so big haha at least they sent sideways!

Looks to me that the discolored leaves could be because they are not getting enough sun. If so, simply rotating the pot so these leafs get direct sunlight ought to make them green up - long term just rotate the pot every week or so.

Chinese Elm do drop leaves from time to time, probably nothing to be concerned about

I presume this is a recent purchase - suggest you lose the rock, repot into free draining soil mix as they are usually imported in very poor stuff, you can trim these at pretty much any time, regular misting shouldn't be needed unless your climate is really dry in which case keep the pot on a tray of damp gravel to raise local humidity. They are quite tolerant though and easy to keep - cuttings root easily, I have a dozen or so tiny trees plus an air-layered top section of my old ugly original Elm, the remainder is in my garden to get a ground layer of the best remaining lower branch... going to need more space (and pots!)
