Re: Rooter pot
A couple of years ago I helped a friend, who received 'the kit' as a birthday present, set an air-layer on an apple tree. It worked fine, but I found no tangible advantage to this rig over a plastic bag, wire and some sphagnum. We were fine setting the thing on a long fairly straight section of trunk, but it could actually become a detriment in tighter or sinuous confines.
Overall, I'm a BIG fan of LeeValley stock, but this one struck me as frivolous. I guess, if you prefer cut seedling pots to a plastic bag for air-layering, then this would save you some trouble --- and they are reusable. At the end of the day, it's a matter of preference and how much discretionary income you have to throw around.
I did, however, grab myself a three pack of those bent syringes to water my more DIY plastic bag approach to the technique. Those were worth the investment.
