This was the year I had to make a decision on this little guy as I could tell the tree was getting a bit too top heavy. Next spring with the new candles coming in would make the tree even more out of proportion than it already was between the top and the trunk size. I hated to have to do it but I knew I had to remove that large branch right in front in order to hopefully bring the tree into proportion again. I think it came out pretty good in the end. Very Happy

Why wouldn't you cut some of the top a bit and wire up a new leader?

There is literally no back budding going on in this tree, only at the tips so whatever I removed from the top would stay removed. Cool

Get some wire on that tree man!
Bring the first branch down, maybe make a drop branch out of it... Thin out the top some more, select the branches you want to keep and bring them down too... You could have a much nicer tree in a couple hours!
