Geranium species

Post  Tom Simonyi on Fri Dec 20, 2013 3:46 pm

I am not sure whether this is the right forum for this, so please move it as need be, Fiona....thanks.  I am not sure of the cultivar at this point, but am hopeful for some flowers in the spring/summer of 2014.    Tom

Geranium Species

Your plant is probably Pelargonium x hortorum (that is a times sign because it is actually a hybrid going way back). Unless it is very distinctive, you will probably not be able to key down the exact cultivar. See if the leaves develop distinct markings in better light.
Your geranium appears chlorotic (anemic). The soil may be too soggy or it needs acid fertilizer & a bit of iron tonic. Do you give a fertilizer with trace elements regularly?

Thanks for the input, Iris....good hearing from you.....I do fertilize regulary....however I will swtich to a more acidic formulation.  Thanks also for the i.d. information.  During the winter I have it under fluorescents with my other indoor species....maybe I need to change its placement from the fixture.

Best regards,
Tom

Pelargoniums are cool growing. It may be happier if you can keep it just above freezing for a couple of months in a semi-dormant state.
