Can anyone identify this plant... Berrie11

From higher altitudes in East Tennessee Smokey Mountains... with berries, low growing, in rocky outcrop areas. Picture taken 11-12-2013

Looks like wintergreen to me. Taste a leaf and you will know.

If they're right, it tastes like . . . wintergreen.

If they're wrong . . . we'll miss you. <g>

I'm with the others for wintergreen. It's a pleasant taste.

One of my favorite wild native flavors! Not thaught to train/work with it though, interesting to say the least, let us know how it goes. On a side note, what part of East Tn you call home?

Hi everyone, thanks for the replies. I did rub some of the leaves together and it did have kind of a minty smell... kind of like old school Clove or Teaberry Gum. I didn't eat any, I wasn't that brave. Very Happy

The plants were located on Jellico Mtn. in upper East TN, close to KY state line.... in patches that covered the ground close to some bluffs. So the berries are edible??

Yes, the berries make teaberry or wintergreen flavor.
