The first Winter Silhouette Bonsai Exhibition will be held on December 7-8, 2013 at the North Carolina Research Center in Kannapolis, NC. The beauty of deciduous bonsai is best appreciated when they are leafless and this is the first time such an exhibition has been attempted on the East coast.

Some of the finest deciduous bonsai in the region will be displayed by their owners. The sales area features select vendors with bonsai, pre-bonsai as well as items for bonsai creation, care and appreciation.

Bonsai artist, educator and scholar William N. Valavanis will be presenting a FREE seminar at the Winter Silhouette Bonsai Exhibition on Saturday, December 7th at 2 pm. The topic of his educational program is “Dwarf Japanese Maple Bonsai.” This comprehensive FREE seminar includes valuable information on maple bonsai including: history, care, maintenance, propagation, bonsai creation as well as shaping. The seminar also includes the demonstration of creating the basic design of a dwarf Japanese maple from nursery stock. A special Sharp's Pygmy Japanese maple has been selected for the demonstration. As always, questions are most welcome throughout the educational seminar. He will also be conducting a FREE critique of the exhibited bonsai on Sunday morning.

Bring your friends to the Winter Silhouette Exhibition and see why deciduous bonsai are appreciated during their dormant season when they feature fine twigs, interesting buds, colorful fruit as well as distinctive bark.
