Looking for some seedling/nebari info
I recently came across a website on building nebari on tridents/maples using a tile of some sort and drilling holes in them to make some nice looking trees. I just ordered 10 new maple seedlings(1/2 trident & 1/2 JM) from Kaede-en's website, and want to get some more info on it. If I do recall it was somethingofgary's blog, but ever time I go there it's just a little section on it and no pics like I remember. Anyone know what I'm talking about or can point me to a thread on here with some good info. Thanks!

It is a ceramic tile: Things of Wood (Gary Wood's somewhat inactive blog)typoolVT wrote:I recently came across a website on building nebari on tridents/maples using a tile of some sort and drilling holes in them to make some nice looking trees. Yeah Gary used ceramic tiles, but the one I saw the person was using piece of a composite board and pretty much did the same as Gary but the site was very detailed in the explanation of the whole process.

Not lot to the process. You need a thin piece of wood (lathe will do it, square, circular or rectangular). Drill small holes in it. Push bare seedlings through the holes until they fit TIGHT. Plant the trees -- board and all -- about 1/2 inch below the soil. Fertilize the hell out of them and let them grow for several years. When the trunks start to grow (swell) out over the board, break it away from the plants (it should be pretty rotten by then) and then treat the clump as a single tree.
