Here are a few pics of the Carolina Bonsai Expo which continues through today.  The lighting forced me to zap a lot of the pics I took, since i seldom use flash pics, so I hope others will add to these pictures.  I know several IBCers who were photographing.

First up is my club's display, which I understand won the Curator's award for the overall display (I hope that's correct; I had left the premises by then).  We had as a theme -- Small Trees.  And we kept it simple.

A few of the trees:

A shohin Juniper:

And the really little trees:

A few more:

The Charlotte Club's display.

A Douglas Fir, which isn't common as bonsai -- at least not around here:

Another uncommon species - Coral Bells.  Enkianthus

Part of the Atlanta club's Fall Display.  Very dark and hard to photograph.

A juniper from somewhere (poor notetaking):

A Korean Hornbeam from the Mid-Appalachin Bonsai Kai;

The Mountain Empire Bonsai Society's ambitious Tea House display (with blue ridge in the background, alas).

A massive ponderosa pine from the Susquehanna Club's Setup.

A couple of Satsuki:

A Shimpaku

A trident

And finally (from me), a couple of nice Rocky Mountain Junipers:

This first one won a Best in Show Award for the Knoxville Group.

Like tree 30(Shohin Juniper).

The scape has probably drawn a lot of attention?

Thanks for posting.

Jim, loved your display. It seems like smaller bonsai are often underappreciated.

jim, do you know what the upper left tree in the circular stand in your clubs display was? It looked like some sort of dwarf sawara cypress?

This may help. I was focusing on the nice little juniper though you can see the cypress next to it. I don't know the species.

Thanks.

I love the small juniper on the shelf is very sweet. The J. Maple next to the Hinoki looks very interesting too, is it Arakawa?

Yes Todd. I think it was Jim Doyle's. And absolutely one of the finest Arakawas this side of the pond. Look for Arthur's topic on the NC Arboretum. I'll be posting some pictures there shortly. If I can find the time that is Smile

I'll make sure to include that maple in there for you.

Have a great week!!!
