Possible hickory bonsai?
Can anyone direct me to some information on hickory bonsai? I can't find anything which, I guess, forebodes bad news.
I know that the leaves don't reduce well and I'm guessing there are other reasons not to waste time. Too bad as I have a great collected tree with a fantastic trunk. Thanks!

The leaves seem to remain pretty large, and as they grow in a type of compound form, it basically adds to the problem of leaf reduction.
That said, Hickory trees adapt well to living in a container and are pretty easy deciduous tree species to keep. It would help if you could post up a picture or two of this "fantastic trunk" you've found. And what the heck, if this tree is that good? You may want to play around with it for awhile, and see what you can make of it. (Got Nebari? See some of Sebastijan Sandev's collected trees and compare your tree to them).
It would be interesting to see a Hickory tree made into a decent Bonsai. Arthur Joura and a few others over the years have made CAREERS out of developing supposedly "unsuitable", collected native material, into some pretty nice bonsai trees.

There's an old saying, "anything is possible"....
How about sharing a picture?
