38 here this morning (west of Rochester) but no frost. Looks like we should be safe for another week or two.

Why don't you come up for a visit? January is a great time to come to Rochester!

You can go ice fishing, but I'd prefer some hockey...can you skate?

Russell,

THE best time to visit Rochester is on September 13-14, 2014 for the 4th US National Bonsai Exhibition!

Take care my friend,

Bill

No frost... yet, but all my poly houses will be covered on Saturday morning by my crew. I don't like to work in the cold and since I'll be traveling for the next two months, this is the best time to cover.

It's what brings out those beautiful fall colors, Bob. Oh, now you want to know what fall is?

Now that, I'd love to do!!! As for ice skating... when hell, or that lake, freezes over. I remember walking across the koi pond at the Bonsai Park and wondering "what the hell am I doing here?" Well, at least it showed me were NOT to live when I got home!

I hear ya...trust me, Rochester would not have been where I would have chosen to live - but my wife's job brought us here. Climate-wise, I'd rather still be living in Virginia, or perhaps a little further south.

But we make the best of it...ice skating, cross country skiing, etc (but not ice fishing!). Winter has its own beauty which I appreciate. The only problem is the length of winter up here, by March I'm more than ready for spring but mother nature is certainly not.

And of course, if we'd wound up somewhere else, I wouldn't have met Bill and all the other bonsai fanatics around here. It's funny that I've always had a simmering interest in bonsai going back decades, even started on the path with a few trees a couple of times...but interest waned without others to learn from and share with. But with so much going on around here, it's definitely not a problem staying interested and inspired.

Still, we do hope to move to a warmer place at some point...

I went ice fishing once...caught 200 lbs of ice. I tried to fry it up. I almost drowned.
