Advice about tree collection when leaving UK long-term.

Post  Phil S on Tue Sep 10, 2013 12:17 pm

I have a small collection of Bonsai. Some bought, some collected and some gifted to me. I am planning to leave the UK in a few month and realise that I must soon do somthing about my six trees. No one that I know could look after them as bonsai and I have considered planting them out to grow into full size trees, but this seems a waste of all the care and attention given to them and photgraphic records of their developement.

My collection includes:
1. Informal Whitepine on blackpine stock bought from Newstead Bonsai centre eight years ago.
2. shohin field maple gifted to me many years ago(in an english pot): possibly started as a bonsai in the mid-eighties. Leafs about 25% of normal size at the moment.
3.A cheap but nice bankan style elm, really stood out from all of the rubbish trees when I bought it from a gardencentre.
4.Collected English oak 6 years trained currently in a pond basket,
5.collected slanting fagus sylvatica 8 years trained in (pond basket)
6.old ex-garden juniper type plant trained for ten years (japanese drum pot)

Base in northwest england and would appreciate advice.

If you are a member of a club, you could dispose of them through the club. It's not clear to me whether you expect to want them back some day or not. If not, an auction might be in order.

hi, even though i live in Cornwall i am happy to offer this solution.....i offer hospital care to friends and customers trees..it has bought back many trees that would otherwise die. Eventhogh yours are healthy if you want to entrust the trees to me down here they will be fed, repotted, watered etc and we can decide between us at a future date if you want them back, want me to sell them for you or any other senario we can think up .. they could be sent, collected, meet in the middle etc but you could keep the options regarding what happens to them open while knowing they are being cared for. cheers Marcus...07855 300789, marcus@futurebaits.com
