So we spend years at a Studio, learning to draw and paint technically well, as say Da Vinci or Titian, or Raphael or Rubens or Vermeer or even D.G.Rossetti and Burne-Jones.
And others talk a good painting.

Ah Fine Art.

Not just Fine Art, Khaimraj, - that is an essay on life and its occupants. End of! (IMnotsoHO). Cheers.

Rick,

by any chance were you around London, during W2, and had to learn to live on half of everything?
I ask because my Auntie Valerie, and her mum, learnt to do with half or not all. She became very disciplined and at the same time still takes much joy in living. Appreciating not only the big stuff, but the little things in life.

You see, I was raised by mostly pre-War folk, who had very strong morals and beliefs. This has resulted in my having difficulty with Internet folk from the UK of around 50 to 60 in years. Generally they tend to want lots of convenience and easy money. Whereas, I have no problems with folk from the Commonwealth [ Australia for example ], and I couldn't understand it.
Fiona explained it, when she likened me to her mum, who - might - have been a tad strict.

Seems as I have been told, too much of the flower of your folk were killed of in W1 and W2, and perhaps what was left behind didn't have that stiff upper lip and all that.

Anyhow, those of us who really train, x hours daily behind the easel, have become targets for those who do not train but can talk up a storm.
Guess, I got too much discipline, which also allows me to experiment and discover so much, love it.
Thanks for reading.

Hi Khaimraj. Interesting stuff. Yes, I was a kid in London and later just outside during WW2, but I can't remember going without too much. I'm sure my folks did so, in order to make sure my sister and I did not. The circumstances were such that actions counted much more than words in those days, and the respected people were those who did very practical things.
Life after the war ended was still pretty tough, but things gradually eased. The generation that then followed had not experienced the privations and shocks, so expected far more from life, and I think they were right to do so. Whether their values were compromised or whether it was the "marketing" of everything and shallow approach to life that spread so quickly I don't know, but you can't really blame them for wanting an easier time in general. I wanted that for my kids, but I hope I taught them that old fashioned approach summed up by the one word "respect", and that they apply that to their lives and the lives of others around them - I certainly like to think so.
Respect is what seems to be missing in all walks of life, and within all subjects - hence your feeling that "Scholarship and Perseverance" are not so much appreciated in some quarters.
But - we are where we are, and we are who we are. There is room for everyone - and if we look for harmony we will surely find it. Keep searching and keep experimenting - you'll find your own kind of harmony within yourself, even if its seems not to exist elsewhere!
Those little trees help a lot!
Cheers. Rick.
