Tree 1 - June 2010:

The tree shed it leaves because I forgot to water it - luckily it did not die.

The species react very well to heavy cut back and the leaves to reduce well.

Any comments, suggestions and advice, before I cut it back again, on all aspects will be welcomed.

Really like the aged bark on such a small tree, #2. I would not have expected leaves to reduce that well. Does this species need full sun? Or is does it grow well in the shade? Thanks

The tree prefers to grow in full sun. In shade the leaves becomes greener and the nodes longer and the leaves bigger- the more sun, the yellower the leaves become.

The bark is lovely, even on young trees. Got a big fright with Tree 1 shedding it's bark from about two weeks ago - I thought the nebari died!

Thanks for the reply.

The trees grow very fast and adapts well to bonsai practices. It is now 3 years from a nursery bought tree.

The branches do grow down over time so a cascade can be an option - I have considered it but the thin twigs are very hard to wire!

The species air/ground layer very well.
