Pyrethrin on Trident?

Post  rossa on Wed Jul 17, 2013 7:41 pm

Fighting a plague of leafhoppers I sprayed several of my bonsai with pyrethrin mixed to mfg's specs. It seems to have negatively affected only the Trident...spotted & curled leaves, about 30% defoliation within about 4 days. No problems with wisteria, box-elder, wild cherry, korean hornbeam, or satzuki (sp) azalea. It was pretty hot out, but in dappled shade, not full sun. Any similar experience with pyrethrin? Out of the bonsai area, I think the spray also whacked some of the leaves on a zuchinni, but that was in very full sun.

Thanks, good to hear, would rather it be something I screwed up than a proclivity of Tridents because I find pyrethrin a good all-around product.

Was just reading a label in the shop today; BAYER has a product with the same active ingredient. If it is hot, they recommend spraying plants in early morning. Otherwise the leaves may get damaged if dehydrated.

Temperature changes have been sudden -- both up and down -- here in the Southern part of the USA. I think some of our trees have a hard time coping with the yo-yo effects -- tho it hasn't show up in my elm, yet. Here in the SE USA, it has been rain that's the biggest problem -- too damn much of it.

My non-native juniper are all complaining -- as are my 2 Ficus.
