Here's a little eastern white cedar I collected a few years back 40cm/16in to the tip of the jin. I know... the pot's too big. Any suggestions?

hi! first eye sight reaction,....dead wood seems static and not belonging in the image.
Especially the left dead wood,....the one witch goes up,...NICE!
But to white,....offset in image, somehow.....
And maybe a little pruning would do,....the tree good it needs air!

my humble opinion sorry, Embarassed

Nothing to be sorry about. I appreciate the feedback and wouldn't have posted otherwise.

G'day Curley...

Oooooopppss!! Sorry about that...

Back in the '50s, in a previous life, I worked with a guy named Curley Grieve...he was the Sports Editor for the San Francisco Examiner...long dead and gone...I was a very prestigious copy boy...you know, the guys the reporters and editors called to "...hey boy!! Get me a cup of coffee!!!...?

Anyhow...

"...IMAFMHO (InMyAncientFeebleMindedHumbleOpinion)…".

Quite a nice little guy you have there, Dave...however, to my liking...the height of the jin should be reduced by half...it seems to go on and on, to the point of becoming a curiosity. Also, the stark white detracts from the good features...and appears to be unnatural.

However, nice work...very well done.

And remember, i said...IMAFMHO and "...to my liking...". Furthermore, it's your bonsai, and if it floats you canoe, that makes it right...

Pat…mounted on my trusty stead, riding off wildly in all directions…

Hey Dave,

Nice little tree. I agree that I would reduce the tall straight jin considerably and I would also carve some interest to the deadwood on the left.
You might even consider adding some deadwood via nails/glue to add more interest to the right hand side.

As for pot, I'd go with a darker red/brown rectangle. The drum pot is too large, too light in color and too fussy for the style.
