Soliciting thoughts about showing fully wired trees in shows...
I am under the impression that it is only appropriate to show a tree with minimal wiring, anchors, or no wires at all preferably. But never a fully wired tree. Are there exceptions to this, or am I wrong about this? Thank you for your thoughts.

Lots of those perfect pines you see in show pictures from Japan are fully wired with fine copper wire holding all of those tips in place. Needless to say the wiring is PERFECT and almost invisible to the untrained eye.
I think it boils down to the tree, the show, the amount of wire and (most importantly) the SKILL of the wirer.

A couple of years ago I studied all the bonsai at a KoKufu Exhibition. Over 90% of the evergreens had some wire, although it was fine wire applied beautifully. Upon closer examination I also found heavy wire which was hidden in the inner branch areas.

So I'm thinking that it is all right for evergreens to be wired, if done well and not obtrusive. How about deciduous trees? I have talked with people, and observed the postings on IBC, which suggest that a deciduous tree that has many wires, in a show, really isn't "show ready". Is this the case?
Thank you.
Thank you.

Todd... "show ready"... that may very well be the case... but every tree is different. It's harder to hide in a deciduous tree for sure. Think of it this way: Is the first thing you say when you walk up to this tree at a show "Holy crap, look at all of that wire!" or "What a beautiful tree... hey, is that some wire?"?

Thanks Russ and Bill. That's a really good point "what do you notice first?" tree? or wire? Personally, I have had times when I removed all of the wire and felt the tree looked "naked"; I get use to the look, and did feel silly about my reaction. Psychologically, I receive "positive reinforcement" when I finish wiring a tree; all that work... And then this "means to an end" must come off. I wonder if others share this feeling? (just rambling here...)
I have fully wired one large pine so far, and it took me most of a week; a lot of work! And there were still a few branches that I missed. This mindfulness is good for the soul

A lot of the big Japanese shows are sceduled in the dormant months, when deciduous trees are bare and yuou should be enjoying the details of the branch structure and ramification. In those times, I think wire -- no matter how neatly applied -- would be very distracting.
For a spring or summer show, more wire may be more acceptable because it is hidden by (usually) thick foliage.
However, MY wiring is never neat enough to be accepted at a show.
