Resource for Chinese chops?

If one existed, I can't imagine why Ryan wouldn't be all over it.  Things are different there.  I have some really nice Chinese pots... some have no chop, some have the generic Yixing chop, some have a couple of chops AND a signature.  I'd like an explanation too.  Maybe Ryan needs a new project....

There is no online resource for Chinese Chops.  That being said, there's a reason for this.  Region and age are far more important when talking about Chinese pottery, not so much kiln(although there are around 150 kilns I'm aware of whose marks are important, the so called Famous Antique Kilns: Katsumeisho, Shokodogata, Ect.)
There's really no reason to have a database of anything other than the famous 150, along with some pre-cultural revolution chops, because nothing after that period is really worth anything!(on the average, pots made after the cultural revolution in China sell in Japan for 5-50$)
Age is important not only for patina, but for clay quality.  The Shudei is rarely found these days in Yixing, clay color color is now artificial.  That being said, feel free to email me any chops you're looking for information on, I know quite a few that I simply don't have time to post on the database.

Thank you Ryan, this really helps. I will get a picture soon as soon as I can find some one to hold the pot (now that it has a tree in it ) to take the photo. I am curious about the artificial clay color. There's so much to learn about pot culture (no pun intended).

Re the clay color: these days, clay mined in Yixing is becoming very expensive, and, to hear some tell it, true Shudei(the clay that fires to that very unique vermillion color that Yixing is most famous for) is virtually non existent.  To compensate for this, red clays are pigmented to make them the same color.  But it's a bit like fake patina, it's not the real deal, even if it looks good(this is especially true if the pigmented clay is used for teapots, as the Shudei actually influences the taste of the tea!!).
