colored felt under stones

Post  sunip on Mon May 20, 2013 4:40 pm

Hello
I found these round woolen pieces. (9cm.)
With this color they look very attractive under a stone.
But i think can only be used with pattern stones and certain figure stones,
a landscape stone or animal stone would not fit?
Here combined with a special meteorite.

Sunip!... cheers
Very interesting and different at the same time!
I have seen ceramic suibans in this color use for water themed stones.
I used one for cool summer Island suiseki display.
I think an oval shape might be easier on the eye, more room.
You say felt, but then talk wood? not sure which!
I used thick large black felt mat as a jiita for a stone once, but not many liked it.
hard for some people to keep an open mind... Basketball

Hello Stonener.
Ceramic and felt give for me two totally different feelings, i would not use blue felt for a cool summer island display.
For example the figure stone with an image of an old woman from Yvonne Grauback would go well with it in an informal display, or some pattern stones as well.
Your use of black felt depends on many things but the feeling should be right.
This type of blue is similar as the color blue that is used frequently on display tables in Japan,
it goes very well with the green foliage, wood and stones, but i am not sure it would be good as an image for water.
I got these round shapes from a shop, see if they have other shapes.
I am not sure what you mean by -You say felt, but then talk wood? not sure which!-
do you mean a daiza for this stone or the wood of the jitta under the felt?

Hi Sunip

Your rare stone with the rare collor look very nice on the round felt, with a quit strong collor...oval is not needed in this case, due to the stones shape...it does not give a suisekifeeling at all, and is not needed. the display is nice.
The suiban has a very nice collor...blue works very well with stones.
I have made a felted daiza some years ago..blue...I made for a rough stone found in the itaian alpes, the dolomites.

It give me no suisekifeeling, to me is it just a little piece of stoneart...I like it, and also a second one I made in this periode.

Kind regards Yvonne....the felt-thing for the old lady, was sewn Smile

Yes yes Sunip!
I too have seen those blue table clothes,
and yes they do show things off nicely, even dinner!
point i was trying to make was feeling of deep water,
reflection blue sky, with or without it, as in these displays.
IMHO Deep Blue = Deep water, well for me. But I'm still learning!

blue lagoon with water to support cool summer waterfall theme

Sunip
Now I understand you mean felt covered wood... Basketball
Black felt jiita I made was .75" thick but solid felt,
stitched silk ribbon to cover cut edge of large oval shape.

Ms Yvonne
the thickness of your felt stand help me see!... cyclops
and understand wood was beneath the felt.
in first blue circle so nicely done! hard to tell,
because no tailoring marks can be seen... Basketball

Hello Stonener
Nice to see this stone again and now in a suiban.
If used to evoke a feeling of water, this specific blue would be a very specific sort of water i must say,
but the material has an influence as well, the wool of felt is not something that evokes water for me.

Hello Yvonne,
This is really exiting to see what this material does with this stone,
to think of the difference when one imagines this would be wood instead?

Yes, the felt do not give a suisekifeeling, nor can it look like water in any way...i made this feltthing years ago, before i began carve in wood.
I am not planning a daiza in wood for the stone, as it now represent a step towards suiseki for me, and the daiza is nicly handworked.
Also do i think it is too square.

kind regards Yvonne

Ms Yvonne this advise can you offer to Billy Rhodes,
For his new sleeping monkey Chinese stone.
would help him greatly, just different color and shape.
IMHO would really give feeling of resting head on pillow... Basketball

Sunip your original idea is a practical solution for Billy as well!
He's asking for advise for his new stone from China posting.
