bark problem
Hi everyone
I have few seedlings of Japanese maple(acer palmatum) with strange spots on bark.
Nice green bark turning brown, this process starts from nebari.
First I was thinking it was just aging of a bark, but spots seems to irregular like disease or something.
But when I scratch bark, cambium looks normal and green.
Any idea what disease could it be?
Few photos(third photo shows best what is my concern) :

Re: bark problem
yes - thats the way the mature bark begins - (very small bark plates form, slowly joining up) - green smooth bark is the immature version and will eventually be just on the newer branches

Re: bark problem
They are my first Japanese maples, I sow them 3 years ago and I was thinking its too soon for bark transformation ( in nurseries I saw 10 old maples with still green bark).
