grafting azalea to rhododendron
Does anybody have any experience grafting azalea onto large rhododendron root stock?
If so, I'd be interested in hearing anything about the results.
thanks,
Casey

Re: grafting azalea to rhododendron
Try to ask in the yahoo azalea group.
But I don't see why you would want to try. And my guess would be that it doesn't set.
Still, could be fun to try. Many rhododendron are grafted on rootstock. Evergreen azaleas are never grafted. Deciduous ones may be grafted if you can't get them to root (because you don't have access to tissue culture and they take root really badly).

Re: grafting azalea to rhododendron
I should have started long ago, but I'm getting to a point where I want to
scale back long term trunk growing projects. I want to start with finished bases.
The rhododendrons that I've found on an old farm have 3" + caliper trunks.
Thanks for the yahoo groups advice. I'll check it out.
