Help with ID of this Elm

Post  Brett Simon on Tue Apr 09, 2013 1:33 pm

Hi All

I have seen this Elm and would like to know which one it is.
Any help would be appreciated. Maybe a Guru like Iris could help with this one.

Thanks Martin.

I would like to use it for a broom style tree. Would it work?

Definitely Chinese elm, but I don't know how anyone could narrow it down to the variety 'Allee' by what's shown here.

As for a broom style, I don't see why it wouldn't work. It's easy to grow from seeds (they come up all over the place from trees planted here), so have some fun.

Russell,

I didn't narrow it down to Allee. I expressed an opinion of what I it looks like to me. For what it is worth, I based my opinion on the bark texture, leaf shape and seeds shown in the pictures compared to my experience with Allee elm.

Martin

Really? Because by saying "Looks like the Allee Chinese Elm...", it kinda did to me. If I read too much into your sentance I apologize to you and anyone else who may have taken offense to my reply.
