it's tiny. Needle plucking and candle timing will be critical to keep everything in scale.

I think you got the most important reply. It is very small and it currently has needles that are too long.

I do wonder how long it will take for the corky wings to develop on a tree that is so small? Is it grafted? If so how low is the graft?

The tree is not grafted, wings are forming on the tree.
It origenally came from Hotsumi Terakawa, I dont know how old it is, the pot is Japanes and antique, i currently try to find the maker of the pot.
Long needles is a problem with this kind of tree, i have a wannabe shohin aswell of the same kind, long needles aswell.

Your Black Pine looks good, just needs structure and ramification. Seen bigger ones in the past and they seem to suffer with inverse taper. Yours does'nt.

I wonder if it is airlayered? Nice to have one on its own roots, as those are supposed to cork up eventually too.

Hi Kev,

I did see a few pics from the tree in its early days, no wings "corckbark", and much smaller almost seedling like.
Now its startet to grow wings.
The shohin I have is airlayered, and I think all branches are grafted.
That one I take with me to a weekend workshop with The Pirate Tony Tickle the 12-13 of september here in Denmark.
I will take a lott of pictures i guess.

How did you get on with this tree? did you take to workshop with the pirate guy?
Really nice pot, but do you see the tree staying in it?

No the mame will certainly not stay in this pot.
The shohin well, I did talk with te pirate and we came to the conclusion that I either sell it or give it away!
I plant it in my garden and see if it survives and grows bigger.

Have we seen the shohin? What was the logic for giving it away?

No thats my point in the previous post, the tree suffert from some severe dieback 2 years ago.
Now its pretty much useless, Tony Tickle took a look at my trees and this was one of the trees I should get rite of.
The rest that have to go I sell on other bonsai websites, like bonsaifachforum.de
