Taxus cuspidata - new styling

Hi bonsai friends. My friend asked for a new shaping of the yew. Original owner with the intention of shaping failed. Withered several branches. It was necessary to invent a new concept of the tree. Also refine some parts of the dead wood. I am satisfied with the result. Some branches have yet to grow to a length. That's a question of time and cultivation. pict.1 yew before styling

Pavel, I love your previous work, as you well know but this one is a bit flat. All the deadwood on show and symetrical live vein on either side. Any other options for a front, that gives some asymetry?

Excellent work and a good eye for design. About all it needs is time to grow the foliage pads in and probably chase them back closer to the trunk over time. Will be an outstanding tree.

The blinding white colour of the shari will probably get a more natural look when placed outside, which will make it even better.

Considering what Pavel had to work with, I have to say that he brought the absolute best out of this tree, for the time being. His future outline for this tree is indeed plausible. I think we as a community need to move away from instant gratification and should endeavour to embrace the "transformation process".

Very nice tree, I have changed the tree a little, I think the gap in the left was a little too big.

Is this an improvement ?

Rick, you have ended my year with a real poignant note, our 'problem' in the west IS instant gratification... I want to get it into a bonsai pot... I want to style it NOW... Carve it... re-pot it! I know and understand this way... but... it 'aint the best way.

Time + Technique = Maturity we can all learn technique... as for time travel... ?

What has my comment got to do with quick fix bonsai? I was talking about the even strip of live vein either side of the deadwood. A slight change of front, thats all.

Will... way too touchy man, I do not see that Ricks comments were directed at your post or YOU but as a general view on bonsai as practiced in the west... well... that how I read it anyway

IMHO the transformation (for now) is very nice. A fine progression and its future can be seen easily....however I for one wouldn't have that much foliage mass.......(I also like the empty space (negative space)
To me....that much dead wood shows some great age and a history of survival.....putting too much foliage would perhaps give it too much of a juvenile feel. Keeping it sparse would relate to its age and the "ancient" feel.

Hi all friends

Yesterday I worked on the restyling of Taxus. (The owner is a friend Mirek). Last year we transplanted tree. The tree grew very well.
Yesterday I worked on improving the tree. A new line of dead wood. At the lower the trunk uro. Then I worked the new styling of the tree. I think that the tree in one year improved a lot.

Pavel.... the work on this Yew is great, the deadwood in particular is sensitive... and the foliage placement just right, I was surprised how big it was when you and Mirek appeared... I like it very much

I am looking forward to the High Tatras!!!!
