Azalea Help
Hello Everyone,
I have a wonderful azalea that I purchase last year at a great price. However, I cant seem to find real good information on when to repot. Therefore, here is my question: I live in the Central Valley in California (Lodi) and my azalea is done blooming. Being that we are towards the end of April it is too late to repot? We still have some cool days ahead of us so I wanted to take advantage of this and repot if possible.
Thank you all,

Re: Azalea Help
It's traditional to repot azalea just after they have bloomed. So now wod be OK.
FYI in the future, like any other plant, they'll prefer to be repotted in early spring. You may lose some or all blooms, though.

Also, after blooming, make sure you remove all parts of the spent flowers, including the flower stem. Developing seed capsules consumes a lot of the tree's energy and should be avoided.

Thank you all,
This weekend I plucked all the flowers and did some trimming. I think I will wait for next spring to report just to be on the safe side.

Re: Azalea Help
I routinely repot after flowering. Here in SC, the temps are well into the 80s or even 90s by the time the Satsuki varieties have bloomed in late April or early May. They do well with a modest amount of aftercare (partial shade and protection from drying winds for a couple of weeks). They will set buds for next year by mid summer, so further pruning after that time will limit your flowers next year.
