Stone Monkey Ceramics Collector's Pot 2009 Empty Stone Monkey Ceramics Collector's Pot 2009

Post  Stone Monkey Thu Sep 17, 2009 9:23 pm

This year's collector's pot from Stone Monkey Ceramics is entitled "The Tao of Bamboo" I was inspired by antique Chinese Pots that I saw from daily trips to the Victoria & Albert museum in London, just round the corner from where I do my day job.
As with last years collectors pot it will come in a bespoke handmade box with a silver Stone Monkey chop set in the lid. Here are a couple of taster pictures, more will follow prior to the release date of 01/10/09 see www.stonemonkeyceramics.co.uk for more details
This years pot has a little something extra as two of the bamboo leaves on each panel of the pot have been permanently fused and plated in 99.9% pure silver.

Tony
I have been lucky enough to see this pot, at various stages, in the flesh and it is beautiful. I don't think that my penny jar will stretch to buy this little beauty.

Andy
I know that you had a few wobbles along the way mate but it's a fantastic pot and you should be really pround of your achievement Very Happy

Great pot Andy!

That silver glaze gives a beautiful effect on your reduction fired collection piece. Thanks for raising the bar!

Dale

Thanks for your kind comments

Kev

I will post some more pictures soon, just waiting for the box to be finished and then I will post some pictures of the silver leaves in close up for you.

Robert

Thanks for the supportive comments, I must admit I did have a hard time with this pot. It was a bit of a love hate relationship for a while

Rob

I was in two minds about the silver on the pot. Its not silver glaze or lustre by the way. Lets just say that the silver in the pot is permanently fused 99.9% silver plating. That one will get you thinking Question As for next years pot, well I already have the wheels in motion and we will see what the result is in the future

Thanks for all your comments guys its really appreciated

All the best

Stone Monkey Ceramics Collector's Pot 2009 Empty Re: Stone Monkey Ceramics Collector's Pot 2009

Post  Klaudia & Martin Mon Sep 21, 2009 8:03 pm

Hello Andy

....you really did a fantastic job!
I must say I was a little skeptic...especially as you have told "the secret" before the start some time ago with Dale's bamboo-pots.
This pot is fine in every way....being a collectors item....you really balanced on that small grade of "showing more than usual" and "too much "......at least the silver tops it!!!!

Only a handfull of potters are "good enough" to release a collector's pot.......and you are one of them!

Kind regards

Post  Stone Monkey Mon Sep 21, 2009 11:11 pm

Hi Klaudia

Thankyou very very much for your kind words.

I shall get some more pictures up on this thread in the next few days as there is a little more to the pot than meets the eye, especially with the glazing as this is only one side of the story, or Tao of the pot. I have tried to tell a story with the glaze as it goes around the pot. I shall explain when I post the pictures. I am glad I decided to to the silver leaves, it was a long shot but I think that it has paid off and it complements the glaze and what I am trying to do.

Again thanks for the kind words

I was busy with my camera this evening as the box I had made for my collectors pot had been finished. The box is made from Malaysian Jelutong wood and finished with a silver Stone Monkey in the lid. The colour change in the glaze round the pot depicts the rising and and setting of the sun showing different aspects of the Bamboo with two of the leaves on each panel in the beautiful plated 99.9%silver. While this has been a difficult collectors pot for me this year I will be sad to see it go.

Hi Andy,

Ceramic and Gold is an adventure.
I worked 15 years ago with a goldsmith. We've decorated bonsai pots, with dragonflies and bats, bamboo leaves made of gold (750 alloy). That was an exciting work, because the pot have become very expensive.

I wish you a lot of fun with the gold work and am looking forward to your new pots.

Best regards
