Pink tree?

Ok so my fiance saw a japanese maple that was pink and asked if that was its normal color. After looking it up we found that it wasnt. Now she really wants a tree/bush/something that has pink foliage during the growing season. Any ideas?

Try Acer palmatum 'Taylor' . It is variegated with much pink in the leaves and the stems are interestingly coloured too. I have one multi trunk as a garden tree and I call it my 'barbie maple'.

A. palmatum 'Beni Shishihenge', 'Geisha', and 'Geisha Gone Wild' are very nice pink varieties of J. Maple with pink Spring foliage.

The bloom last a while into summer, but probably not ALL summer. If you look, though, there are varieties of Loropetalum that have green-and-pink leaves. She could have her pink fix all year long.

I saw some of those last night but they look pretty expensive. ($40-50 for a one gallon) I also found Purple Ghost which I think she likes but is the foliage really this purple?

In my experience, the vendor which shows these colors on eBay uses some special lens in their camera. The colors are not that bright... I think... However, since I don't have any of the "ghost" series, the Spring color could be very bright. I know the Aekane Lee maple color I bought from them was true to color (Spring Foliage).
I do know that "Geisha" and "Geisha Gone Wild" are very bright; almost a hot pink. Geisha is a solid color with some mottling in the leaves (Spring Foliage), Geisha Gone Wild is a variegate leaf (green, pink, and white).

Also, Spring is fast approaching and other maple vendors will be selling their stock and you will find better deals; starting in April probably. There are two vendors, EastforkNursery and Pagesrunnursery, which usually have a good selection throughout the growing season. Geisha is harder to find than Geisha G. W., and both are rare on eBay.

Since you live in Virginia, you might want to check out Acer Acres in central VA , (Acer Acres Inc in Beaverdam,VA. (804) 883-6765).

Also, Colesville Nursery in Ashland, VA had a good selection of maples. Many of the VA nurseries buy their J.Maples from Acer Acres ... FYI. Colesville Nursery used to be managed by the co-owner of Acer Acres and theystill have a good relationship with each other.

Barbie is a great name for a maple! ROFL

There are several varieties of Crape Myrtle that have abundant pink flowers thoughout the summer.

I have a kashima maple next to Barbie and I call him Short and stocky 'Ken'. A bit maple mad I am. Barbie's just about to leaf out and she'll be gorgeous in a week or so. The first leaves are the most pink before the variegation sets in. I think light very much affects the pinkness in her. I hope to bonsai her and ken one day. Once ken's trunk is thick enough and barbie's slender stems put some weight in a few years they'll both go in nice pots and bathe in the sun as bonsai husband and wife. What am I on about??????? better stop typing!

You also get a bush called the Icecream bush , Breynia disticha. Also very nice mottle pink foliage. This one can be bonsai, I think, cause it forms a stem,
Hypoestes sell sow itself in the garden. Very easy as an indoor plant!
