My latest addition to serve me when i need an attractive piece to be able to display a kusamono and tenpai on opposite ends in front of a nice bonsai.
It's 28 inches long and 12 inches wide in the center, barely over 3/8th of an inch thick.
Piece was made by jason eider, a bonsai bud and carpenter by profession.
I wanted to make a tokonoma display to include tancho craines in their mating dance on the scroll. a bare acer palmatum bonsai but could find neither a kusamono or tenpai that was appropriate.

It seems no matter how many unique display pieces one accumulates, there is never enough. (kinda like buying pots, you've got millions of them but when repotting time rolls around, the one you need ain't there) Smilemaple burl Jitta Img_2810

That looks to be a lovely piece of wood Dick, enjoy using it in your displays.

Woe Dick!
I got an old clock looks just like that shape & size
even at center hole seen is in the same place!
will remove the plastic gold numbers & movement,
then fill the hole, just save a cool bundle & recycled.
Is that bamboo reed covering the bottom of your tokonoma?
Thanks for the ideas...

Stoner, I have several redwood burls that were former clocks. They do patch up nice, pots cover repairs and the depth of them seem to anchor faily big trees well visually.

Yvonne,
It is fairly good sized but when I saw it I pictured a kusamono on one end and a tenpai on the other
