Hi WOG.

I love it! Very different sort of Ficus. I think it would be even better on a piece of real stone, or a more natural looking made man stone pot. I see what you're going for with your pot but it needs something better.

I also see that you've discovered that Ficus don't take wire well. Here's a trick - before you wire next take a sharp knife and make a cut through the bark along the length of the bottom of the branch. Then wire and bend into place. When that cut heals the branch will hold the shape. That's what I'm told anyway. I tried it with mine this time, we'll see if it helps.

WOG,
I like your tree very much. It is progressing nicely. I too am not sure that the pot is the best one to display the many virtues of the tree.

I think you should turn it into a shallow pot or a tray. you will have a beautiful forest.

I really like the tree, I have a similar one, but I am not a fan of unconventional containers.

maybe it would be like this. to reduce the length of the branches. cutting thick branches. distance increases. increasing the number of shoots sprouts.
standard can not translate. learn more

Ficus retusa Empty Ficus Microcarpa

Post  bonsaisr Sat Feb 02, 2013 4:45 pm

I agree with others who don't like your pot. Of course we don't know what is available in Poland. Otherwise it is a very good representation of those giant figs you see pictures of growing over ruins in Indo-China.
There is no Ficus retusa in the bonsai trade. Period. In fact there is only one specimen known in cultivation anywhere, in Indonesia. Anything you see labeled retusa is Ficus microcarpa.
