Hi, IBC
I Collected this rhodie about 4 years ago. After my father passed away we had to put the house up for sale. the new owner was kind enough to let me dig this, and as it was the house I grew up in and my father was big into gardening it is a special tree for me.
I dont have any pics as collected, but first pic is a year or so later in an anderson flat.

after one trunk reduced

last year had some problems with pests, after inspecting the roots decided to go ahead and put in a pot that i had. Another trunk reduced.

hopefully it will bounce back this year into good health and put on some good growth, then start to wire and style a bit.
any suggestions or comments welcome.

Hey Jason,

Killer tree!!!! The fact that it holds a special place for you, makes it even more attractive for me. I love trees with a story.

Keep us posted and thanks for sharing.

Hi Jason,
I don't have good luck with Rhodos, in fact I manage kill most of them and I'm not sure why.
Anyway, I would go slow with this one; do to its age and the amount of stress it has endured for the past two years. I would not wire it until at least another growing season. Just feed it and let it grow.
What do others think?

Hi Todd,
Thanks for the reply. That was my thought, just let it grow and recover and get strong before any work. One thing I was wondering is how much better might this do in kanuma? didn't have any when I repotted it. would it be worth disturbing again to get it in kanuma? It's in pumice, lava, bit of pine bark mix now.
thought being, It would be worth the price of disturbing to get it into the best possible soil.

Again, I would leave it alone for a whole year before doing any more work on it. It looks stressed in the picture.
I hope other will respond to your questions; I want to know what I'm doing wrong with Rhodos Sad

a root fungus has taken a huge toll here on the right coast. Lost a few landscape plants myself.
