usually the local clubs have classes for different skill levels...here is the link to the bosai societies of florida...i would contact the one closest to you or easiest for you to get to and see what they offer...a lot of them have websites as well that probably have info on available and upcoming classes.

Ya know what would be cool? If some of the "seasoned old wood" on this website would create some step by step videos to provide documented steps to those of us that are still learning. Then sticky the thread. That's what would be cool.

fun as they are to watch you will learn in a very poor and two dimensional way from video, books and the internet. Use these to inspire you but make the effort to work with actual teachers on real trees.

finding a good teacher is actually hard - there are some who are not as skilled in the bonsai art as they think, so i would go with solid personal recomendations. do some homework.........find the clubs and or teachers within your reach and start a poll or a discussion on here to get feedback on which is the best

i am inspired by the bonsai art japan videos - you should watch them all to see what good technique achieves, you should watch the wolf meditation vids to see how not to do bonsai, but dont use the virtual world as your teacher, just as a way to pass time between hands on work

An alternative to a beginners class might be:
1. One of the regional bonsai conferences close by, Bonsai Societies of Florida will have a conference in the Orlando area over the last weekend of May. Check their web site.

2. There is a similar regional conference scheduled in Puerto Rico, but the language might be mostly Spanish.

3. Erik Wikert has classes at his nursery in Ft. Myers, Fl from time to time.

If any of those sound interesting please send me a PM and I can get you more information.

I was in Nassau from a cruise ship on Jan. 9th and spoke to a lady at the gardens about bonsai.

Our club in Melbourne, Florida will have a beginner's series from time to time, but it will usually be six Saturdays in a row.
